Our Summer 2023 Raritan monitoring team welcomes IEC-trained volunteer pathogens monitors to join us in the field for weekly field assessments and sampling. We absolutely cannot do this work without our *trained* volunteers!!
We have a limited number of volunteer slots every week (three maximum).
We meet Thursday mornings between 7:45-8am at our first sampling site, Riverside Park in Piscataway. The address for our first site is: 430 River Rd, Piscataway, NJ 08854. Additional site location information can be found here. We typically wrap up monitoring at our last site in Perth Amboy by 11 AM, and often need volunteers to drop off samples with our Interstate Environmental Commission partners (meeting up at a mutually convenient location in New Jersey, occasion trips to their Brooklyn lab) and our Rutgers Fahrenfeld lab partners in Piscataway.
We have waders in various sizes, so no need to bring your own. HOWEVER – be sure you have shoes that you don’t mind getting wet/muddy and clothing appropriate for the weather. You will want to bring water/fluids to stay hydrated throughout the day, and snacks for fuel.
You will need sunscreen, long sleeves/pants for sun protection, and a hat.
