FREE Workshop on Municipal Actions to Address Stormwater and Flooding: Stormwater Utilities

October 6, 2022 @ 3:00 pm 4:30 pm

Keynote Speaker: Brianne Callahan, NJ Future

Following the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Ida many Lower Raritan Watershed communities want to know more about how good stormwater management can help minimize future flood impacts and damages.

The Lower Raritan Watershed Partnership is pleased to invite you to join us for a FREE VIRTUAL WORKSHOP on Thursday October 6, 3-4:30 pm to learn from NJ Future’s Brianne Callahan about stormwater utilities, an innovative strategy for municipalities to use to bring awareness to the role of land use choices on flooding and water quality, and to prompt community action to improve stormwater management.

As part of this workshop we will also share information about the LRWP’s ongoing MS4 Community Assistance Program, highlighting important roles municipalities can play in educating community members about stormwater best practices to minimize flooding and improve water quality.

This workshop is open to anyone, including community members, educators, local officials, employees, and anyone interested in the quality of their local water.

*This webinar meets standards for community education. Professional development certificates will be available for teachers.

Pre-registration required. Participants will receive log-in information 24 hours before the live event.

About MS4 Permits:

Since 2004, municipalities with separate storm sewers systems (MS4s) have required a General Permit under the New Jersey Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NJPDES). These MS4 permits authorize stormwater discharges to surface and ground water for both Tier A (urban) and Tier B (rural) municipalities provided they implement Statewide Basic Requirements (SBRs). These permits are meant to help address stormwater quality issues for new developments, redevelopments, and existing developments. The last update to the MS4 General Permits was in 2018.
