July 25 – City of Water Day 2026: A Celebration of the South River!

Saturday July 25, join the LRWP for a full day celebrating the South River, a major tributary of the Raritan River! All events will take place along the South River in the Borough of Sayreville.
Celebrate the South River, a major tributary of the Raritan River! During the morning we will be joined by the Ranger Rick themed campervan, with the Ranger Rick team handing out free magazines and talking about the important role of conservation for wildlife. Activities include birdwatching with the award-winning Middlesex Merlins, a floodplain clean-up, conversations about salt marsh restoration and resilience, and a special brickmaking workshop and discussion of Sayreville’s brickmaking history. Afternoon activities include water quality monitoring demonstrations @ Ken Buchanan Boat Launch, a special water policy workshop with ANJEC @ the Sayreville Senior Center, and a late afternoon paddle through the salt marsh – kayaks provided. Morning events are perfect for families, afternoon events are targeted towards those ages 16 and up!
7-8:30AM – Wake up with the birds birdwatching with the Middlesex Merlins!
9:30-11AM – floodplain clean-up, salt marsh restoration conversations and MORE!
11AM-noon – Brickmaking and Sayreville’s Brickmaking History
12:30pm-1:30pm – Water Quality Monitoring (Pathogens) Demo @ the Ken Buchanan Boat Launch
2-3pm – “Speak Up for Water! Turning Awareness Into Action” – A special water policy Workshop with the LRWP and ANJEC (At the Sayreville Senior Center)
Morning events are perfect for families, our afternoon events are targeted towards area residents ages 16 and up!
For morning events we will be joined by representatives from Ranger Rick, traveling in a Ranger Rick themed campervan. The Ranger Rick team will handing out free magazines and talking about the important role of conservation, preservation and restoration for wildlife.
